Big Win at Dagrofa, the Largest Food Chain in Denmark

Congratulations to Jacob Holm, Nordic Strategic Account Manager Retail, for his win at Dagrofa in Denmark! The Dagrofa Group will be rolling out 300 Magellan™ 9800i imaging scanner/scales in 2017 for checkout at its high-end supermarkets, 300 Magellan 3200 VSi bar code readers for checkout in its low-end stores and 300 Gryphon™ 4400 corded imagers for large item scanning and mobile payments.

The Dagrofa Group operates the MENY, KIWI, SPAR, Min Købmand og Let-Køb supermarket and convenience store chains in Denmark. Out of the 650 stores in the group, Dagrofa owns 144 stores directly, while the other stores are independently owned. With an annual turnover of 19.6 billion kr. and 16,500 employees, Dagrofa possesses approximately 25% of the market share for food consumption in Denmark.

Dagrofa has a strict policy about the technology used in its stores. Every few years, it must be updated or overhauled in order to keep up with current standards. Keeping this in mind, a few years ago, Jacob Holm approached the purchasing manager of Dagrofa and offered his service as a consultant. He developed a relationship with the customer over the months.

When it was time to changeover the technology in the stores, the purchasing manager decided to test the Magellan 9800i imaging scanner. The new imaging technology provided by the Magellan 9800i imaging scanner was exactly what the company needed for the future. Even though the scanner was above Dagrofa’s price range, the company was able to purchase the scanner, as it would save money for service and installation. The pre-calibrated scale and online certification lowered the overall price.

The key factors that determined the choice of the Magellan 9800i scanner were a good return on investment, ensured service from a trusted company and the use of as few manufacturers as possible at the POS.

Dagrofa later purchased the Gryphon corded imager for MobilePay payments, which have become commonplace in Denmark in the past few years. The Gryphon reads the QR code on mobile phones and validates the transaction. The scanner is also used for scanning large items that cannot be placed on the checkout counter.

Through Jacob’s continued relationship with Dagrofa and the help of our partner, Delfi, Datalogic managed another win this year with the lastest sale of the Magellan and Gryphon lines of scanners. Great job Jacob!
